O6 Dmax LBZ, 58,000 miles

Background first:
While driving home from a long road trip, suddenly the power steering stops working and the battery light comes on - I quickly realize the serpentine belt has shredded and look to get off the highway ASAP. I watch the temp gauge carefully - it never goes beyond normal, I'm off the highway and shutdown in under five miles. Other that the lack of power steering and power brakes truck runs fine.

Meet some random dude who agrees to take me to a parts store - I buy a new belt and begin the struggle of putting the new belt on... Get it all line up and can't seem to get the tensioner pulley to move far enough to get the belt on the finally pulley borrow a 1/2 inch drive from a detail shop down the street and manage to snap the tensioner pulley arm.... Mutter a few expletives and decide to have it towed to,the local Chevy dealer.

Got it back today - new belt new tensioner and a new idler pulley. $488 (ouch)

Drive it about eight miles and hear a loud CRACK and see black smoke out of the tail pipe - pull over shut down, look for issues, see none and decide to drive home. Check engine light comes on and truck seems underpowered.

What could this be?

Bmc1025 takes it.!

Boot on intake had popped off Chevy service tech perhaps had not engaged clip properly - just took of for a spin and it's back the way it supposed to be! Nice burn out in celebration!

I still can believe how loud it was when it came loose - damn near a gunshot sound. Scared the piss out of me, I was quite fearful of major engine damage.

Try not to laugh to hard at me, I'm new to this diesel thing...

Now can I reset the check engine light without a scanner?

Go to a part store like advanced or vatozone and get it cleared. Or unhook your batteries for like 10 mins to reset.
