My goal is to run the SuperStreet class with the truck this year, I'll be putting a 6-point roll bar in and running it on street tires, then if I think I can compete in ProStreet in my div, Ill throw on the slicks and race that too. I just need to know what spec my harnesses need to meet, my suit, helmet, tranny blanket etc. What has been your experiences with the techs? are they sticklers or do they not even read tags?

Thanks,
Tim

They use NHRA safety rules. Last race I ran with them was teched by the track officials. I guess it depends on how strict your track is.

Use NHRA rules like above. Have a fire jacket, 5-pt harness with tags (3-years?), Snell 2000 or newer helmet, and a rollbar that meets NHRA rules (attached to frame, or with 6x6" plates to body, it's kind of iffy), door bar can be removable, but the rest must be welded.

And yes, most tracks will check harness tags, jacket tag (3A jackets don't expire), and helmet sticker. RollBARS don't need certs, rollcages do and must be current.

I got my trans blanket from all season

It seemed like I was the only one that had one and one official even pulled me out of the lanes because a strap was hanging:rolleyes:

Trans blankets are interesting as are driveshaft hoops. Most tracks won't check because the tech guy doesn't want to. :D

I hate trans blankets but Casper has to wear one.

It depends on the body style. I'll have to look it up.

Casper has to have it for LSR, as well as a lot of other special equipment. Even the rollcage is different (but compatible) with NHRA. It's .125" chrome moly instead of .083". And it requires 2 fire systems and a funny car suit.

I figure I spent $20k on safety equipment for Casper. I almost wish I could crash it to make it money well spent. :D

All the safety equipment in the world isn't going to guarantee you're going to walk away from rolling a 7000lb truck at 100mph, much less 200mph.

Diesel racing has a very good track record for safety, but be aware that when things go wrong, you really don't have time to beef up your protection. It sucks to dump that much time and money into safety equipment, but dying isn't much of a living.

Prepare for the worst, and cross your fingers that you won't need it.

You don't need a window net until you break 10 sec in one of our trucks, same as needing a certified cage instead of a bar. Think there might be a mph limit like 135 as well but don't remember exactly. If you go faster then 10 seconds lots more safety stuff needed, scatter shields, and other stuff. I don't plan on it in White Out so haven't paid much attention to it.

thanks for the info guys, where is the best place to purchase a suit/helmet, harnesses from? I don't have a nhra rulebook, so what's the SFI standard I should look for?

Scatter shield and what else? Could you try and perhaps make a list please Ken :)

EXACTLY!!!!:thumb: Remember that all of the NHRA rules we follow are for YOUR protection. It is true that all tracks differ on the quality of thier tech process, and some do miss certain criteria, but in the end its all about safety and we STRONGLY suggest you meet all NHRA requirements for ET and speed.

If anyone is in need of a 2011 NHRA rulebook, here is the link to purchase one. They are $10 plus shipping i believe. NHRA Rulebook
