LBZ: S&B more restrictive?

I purchased an almost brand new s&b intake for my lbz. I know the factory modded is good for 500ish hp and planing to go with a bigger single I went ahead with the s&b. Now when I installed it I was impressed with the size and design but "feel" like it's less responsive, spools slower and the turbo is more quiet. To add to all that my EGTs skyrocketed once to 1600 for a split second, they have never gone over 1450 before. Anyone else experience this or is it all in my head? I'm debating on taking it off and going back factory intake. If I do that what will flow to support 650 plus hp?

That's odd. sometimes a bigger intake tube require the MAF sensor to be rescaled to make it have the same throttle response and has to be done with efi live.

Maybe I should clarify. Size of the filter and the box. The layout is nice and straight. The tube size looks the same.

Only way to j NJ ow b us to check MAF at idle and wot. It should be 40 g/sec at idle. You will feel sluggish driving when you start getting lower than 34ish.

Did you have a mild stroke mid sentence?:D

I agree though it does kind of sound like an MAF issue. I didn't have to rescale mine when I installed the S&B with the stock turbo but I suppose it is possible.

I had this happen on my LB7 years ago with a new Airaid intake. The engine hated it. Black smoke, no power. I took it off and gave it to Pure Diesel with an identical truck and he loved it and still runs it to this day. Go figure.
This happened before EFI Live was introduced.

Funny thing, Started throwing p0101 codes so I swapped back to my stock setup thinking the intake was the cause but work. Cleaned it like 20 times over 3 days, didn't work. Swapped maf sensor, didn't work. Talk to my tuner and he said check the maf read out so I did and I had 289 g/s at idle and 290g/s at cruise speed. Then it dawns on me I still had a fingerstick on my truck, took it off and "knock on wood" she didn't throw a code and ran smooth. Idle is 45g/s now. Put the s&b back on and we're all gravy now. Apparently after my egr delete the fingerstick failed or caused problems when my tuner cut the Egr off completely. Thanks for the input.
