Something that was brought up here : http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?p=277081#post277081 and I think it is something worth discussing.

Why couldn't we put something on the discharge side of the compressor with a smaller hole in it to keep back pressure against the compressor side of the turbo? It would be a little tricky to figure out what size of hole would be needed to maintain some pressure but by doing this we should be able to keep the turbo from overspeeding no?

This is so you can run in a single turbo class without having to remove the second turbo.

Thoughts........

The concern was that running just the exhaust side of the turbo and nothing to make pressure on the compressor side would cause overspeeding and in turn shorten the life of the turbo.

Dunno why I just now thought/realized this??? BUT....

Logic immidiatly it seems it would overspeed if left open right?, BUT if you "deadhead" the compressor outlet (or any fan/blower) it would overspeed too. Like when your a kid and you cover a fan outlet and it revs up till you uncover it. So would it actually be loaded more with an fully open outlet? If you think about it, it has a "resistance" normally plumbed. Just a though:D Im very intrugued!

Perhaps this has bearing on low boost/boost leak issues if the above is true?

You are correct. All non-positive displacement centrifugal pumps will do this. Whether it be an air pump or a fluid pump. If there is no flow, they won't build pressure.

That's why a hole in the outlet is my thought on how to keep it somewhat under control-not just blocking it off. To test what size of hole a guy would need would be as simple as putting your contraption on the outlet side with a pressure gauge in it somewhere (not plugging the hole of course) and then run it up and see what you get for pressure. I would think 20 or 30 psi would be suffice.

Seems like more work than it is worth. I have spoke with some people about building crossovers to remove the twin and bolt in place so it was a single. It's not that much work....not more than lowering t-bars, blocking the rear and whatever else the sled puller guys do:)

I dunno about that Paul. Remove the boost pipe, install a filter somehow on the turbo in the valley and put the fixed orfice cap on the compressor side of the big turbo sounds pretty simple to me.:D

Its only another 10 or 15 min to take the turbo off......and if you put the orfis you talk about on it it is going to add drive pressure.....not trying to be a smart ass just stating what I think. I have spend a good deal of time thinking about this for people that want twins but want to pull in a single class. And they still may not let you pull,l I know I would have a problem with pulling against someone with that setup........its not a single set-up....even though the second turbo would be hurting more that it helps.

So your talking about building an adapter for the exhaust piping then? Kind of a turbo delete pipe?:D Because if you have to remove the pipe off the small turbo and installing a downpipe again, then that's alot of work. But if that's your plan then that's not so bad. I agree on the drive pressure going up as well - unavoidable in this situation with this setup.

And if you wouldn't pull against someone with this setup then just just means your a pussy Paul!:D:rofl:

I lost the big turbo @ the track, about a week after I installed my MPI kit (UPS Damage). The comp. side was rubbing on the housing. I removed the housing, took the 4" 90 intake with filter & MAF, and installed it to the mouth piece of the small turbo. I was able to drive home on my single tune 140mi. without any issues. I guess I could do the same thing for the Street Mod class!

i thinks what Paul is talking about is the best way to do it but how about plumbing in the little one back in the exhaust before the big one like in to a blowoff valve opening or something so it wouldn't be dead heading or just blowing into to nothing?

Huh? The way I talked about it like running a true single......it is how my truck is set up right now.

It's not a big deal to take the large charger off. I have someone interested in a kit the way I was talking. If it goes through I will post some pics:)
