i just did a headgasket job by myself on my 04.5 lly and its back together now and running, except its very rough after the first day out working out the bugs. while i had it apart, I swapped chargers to a 68mm fleece cheetah vgt, and billet push-rods. And now for the problems listed;

1. My first problem is my banjo bolt in the valley of the motor is leaking and i cant get to it, are there any ways to get to it and not take the turbo out? because the turbo took more time than anything

2. At idle and mid throttle it misses and shakes. even going down the road around cruising speed at 45mph at 1400 rpms it will shake you in the seat. what could this be? It almost sounds like an injector isn't firing.

3. At the lightest touch of the throttle it smokes like a train almost like an injector is sticking in the open position. i have checked balance rates and they are fine. today was the second day it has been running and it builds boost fine and stays decently cool.

Any help would be much appreciated to help get my rig back going. I am near Godfrey, Illinois so if anyone is near i might need advice or a good shop near by to get the small stuff done. my number is 217-248-8116 if you can reach me easier there. Thanks !

Did you replace the gasket on the banjo bolt for the turbo oil feed line?
Did you bleed the fuel system of air after putting it all back together?

I have literally taken every plug out and checked it unfortunately... Its not throwing any codes. Also I did replace the copper crush washer on that banjo bolt and it still leaks. I went with billet pushrods while I had the heads off so I was thinking maybe the valve lash needs reset since everything was off? Because today after 2100 rpms it would stop making boost and stop fueling also. It was like it isn't letting the turbo push air. It makes 35 psi but the turbo is barely whistling or sounding like its working hard

Anytime you get under the valve covers you should check valves IMO. To me it seems like you could one gapped to much or to little but I wouldn't think it would black smoke a lot.

I was thinking the knocking could be the valves. Or maybe the pushrods since these don't have any wear on them.

The way the turbo performs is perfect I think. And im assuming checking the valve lash on a duramax is about the same concept as one on a dirtbike?
