So yesterday I had to jump my truck twice. second time I took it to the shop to get the electrical system checked. Came up all good. This morning woke up and it started but just barely then I noticed a rotten egg smell. with the heat recently and use of AC more I checked the batteries even though they came up good yesterday.

The passenger side battery was boiling it sounded like once I got close enough. If this is the case can I just add some distilled water for the time being since the entire sysem checks out fine?

Could this just be from heat and more AC usage?

I dont want to crank it anymore before I get water in it because I heard overcharging will burn up all the acid and then the cells:confused:

Usually with that smell it's over charging ,most times. Current draw should have nothing to do with it.Make sure they aren't leaking and double check voltage going into the battery(ies) obviously you have a problem with having to jump start the truck.

well it took a bit but I guess what happened is the alternator went...for what reason I have no clue. No stator volts. anyways it overcharged the auxillary which I am assuming caused one of the cells in the other to bite the dust. SO I dropped a new one in disconnected the auxillary and fixed the alternator. So fasr so good. Not sure if I want to hook the auxillary back up though seeing how it may have been the root of the problem causing the alternator to kick it.

now that it's running I guess it's time to save up for some better batteries. any recommendations?

Overcharging the auxiliary battery? The Dmax uses 2 batteries for starting and running. Starting requirements for the truck are just over 500 amps.

I have dual red top optima's in mine for the last 3 years with no issues.

Dude I know exactly what you're talking about, happened to me in the spring and it was very faint at first but it got so bad that it drove me out of the cab of the truck lol same symptoms though but like a dumbass I just replaced the battery and a week later the alternator went.

it is starting without the auxillary...i have an 800cca battery on the driver's side and everything else seems to be operating well. is it necessary to have the auxillary hooked up? I don't have a plow or anything.

same thing happened to my 2002 lb7 a few years ago, but i just replaced the battery's and everything was fine.

i was waiting in line to enter the campgrounds of a music festival and people were walking up and down the line and a few little girls said "pew that truck smells like farts!" hahaha sure enough i had to have a jump at the end of the weekend and when i got home the batteries were bubbling. I just bought some NAPA batteries and they worked great for a year or so when i traded it in.
