Wondering if its safe to use a white roloc bristle brush to clean the deck surface for new head gaskets? I assume yes being iron. But wanted to make sure, I know they can eat away aluminum.

I use the green ones for lots of stuff but never on the heads (I know you said you weren't going to, just didn't want to give anyone else the idea it was a smart thing to do). I don't see it being a problem on the block as long as you use your brain and don't just hold it down in one spot and wear a groove in the deck surface or something.

I was told by a few that Roloc's would ruin the deck service, even GM Service Bulletin says not to use anything that 600 gritt wet/dry and moisture dispersing lubricant.

I myself had Roloc's on half til a few good sources on DuramaxDiesels site advised not to. Its your truck id do what you wanted, i didn't wanna have to tear back into mine in a couple thousand miles so i manned up and done it the right way

I used emery cloth soaked in wd40. Made my heads and deck surface like mirrors. It would be pretty tough to get in trouble with emery cloth.

Are you talking about the the roloc discs(scotchbrite)? If so that is not what I am asking about. I'm talking about a rubber bristle brush. Scotchbrite is abrasive so I can see why. This rubs it off more then scratchs it off.

I've used the green "finger" bristle type on iron quite a bit with good results, I also use them attached to an electric drill, not a fast air grinder. I don't let crotchbrite anywhere near an engine either lol
