Excessive blue/grey smoke and a rough idle would be indicators...but other than that a compression check is your best bet.

If all are bent but probably not likely, what would one say for pressure would you be concerned? Other than that would 5-10% diference be a concern? Or if there is bent a one is more than 10%?

This was going to be my answer, too..but I decided to be a smart ass instead. I need some humor today.

IIRC, its not necesarily the number you're looking for, but consistancy. Gauges can read differently. Ben once told me that a good running LB7/LLY should be somewhere around 400psi., so that can give you a start.

When we did my truck recently, the numbers looked like this:
1) 325 psi
2) 310
3) 340
4) 340
5) 360
6) 330
7) 315
8) 285

So that gives you an idea of what you'll see if the rods are tweaked.

The only one I suspect isnt bent is #5. #3 and 4 might be ok, but I doubt it. Motor comes apart next month, so we'll see then.

Truck started smoking to beat hell when I started it in the AM as the weather got colder, but the smoke would go away after a couple miles driving. Also noticed the smell of diesel in the cab from time to time. Checked balance rates, and they were all sorta out of whack, but not "injector replacement" bad....and a couple were high positive, which spooked me.
Since I had pushed the truck this year, I figured it was either injectors or rods. I had Eric do a comp test and now here we are. (At least I dont need injectors yet)
Set of LBZ's are soon to be on their way.
