I was under the hood and noticed that something had eaten most of the paper from the firewall heat shield. Nice look of exposed fiberglass! Looking up, the little b^$97^* ate a hole in the hood heat shield, too. Has anyone used Heatshield products? The Lava mat looks like a solid fix without the shiny metal cover of some others. GM isn't an option as they quoted me 190 for the firewall only.

Almost every Duramax motor that we have pulled to do headgaskets on have had a mouse nest in the valley of the motor.

I had the same issue. Just pulled a little of it off the firewall. When i was changing the wategate I noticed some furry stuff in the engine valley. Got the shopvac out and jery rigged a small crevis tool to get it out. As long as they leave the wires alone.

I'm wondering whether it matters that the hood/firewall heatshield isn't black. The stock is too pricey, and I want to get away from paper as the truck isn't going to be garaged any time soon. Squirrel traps for now...
