Rod Length

So cruising back home from down south at 100mph a thought ran through my head......

How much does a rod need to be shortened before the piston hits the crank?

Also instead of making two threads a little thing I learned,

I just got my heads done and then couple days after I had coolant on the fender well and thought they were toast again or had a crack in the head that we missed. I thought maybe it was just the system getting any air out and burping the coolant out the overflow.

This persisted but the amount of coolant coming out was not much and I was down south working with no time to do anything so I just drove it. On the way home today I got the low coolant light and had to turn around and get to the nearest service station to get coolant. When I pulled the cap off I had no pressure so thought the cap was bad. As I was replacing it at the dealer I noticed the aluminum line leaking that runs to the heater core and voila there was the source of the leak the whole time. I guess I shouldn't assume one thing without looking at all other possibilities first but I guess with losing the headgaskets twice, I see coolant on the fender well and thats the first thing that comes to mind.

Wow not much room there. Very tight rotating assembly then if the pistons come that close to the crank every time.

lb7/lly canks have a bigger diameter then the lbz and new cranks.

iirc lbz pistons skirts wont clear a lb7/lly crank though a lb7 piston will clear a lbz crank... personally im runnign a lbz-crank/lb7 cast pistons

.060" is right for LLY's dunno about others. It will actually "kiss" the piston and leave witness marks (Casper's original stock engine) at .060". So .070" would ruin your whole day.
