Got anymore info? When does it do it? Does it throw any codes? Have you done anything to the trans lately?
I had a reverse problem about a year ago, and it turned out to be a problem with the pressure switch manifold that bolts to the valve body.

Wes, did this happen right after startup? did you grab reverse pretty quickly? or just normal driving, went for reverse and it wasnt working?
Did the condition go away?
Truck is stock. Except for pipe, intake and bigger tires, nothing else done to it.
I was backing up out of a parking spot, truck made it about 5 ft and then just stops, like I backed into something. Check the mirrors, nothing there, look down to see if I might have bumped it into park and its flashing the "shift range inhibited" at me. Put it into park, wait couple secs and put it back into reverse, works fine.
30 minutes later, same thing backing out of the driveway. Shifts fine when driving and nothing feels like its sticking. I'm pretty sure I wasn't grabbing it too fast. Every Alli truck I've driven usually has a delay when moving from Park to Reverse or Drive so I've learned not to switch gears and pedal it too fast.
Trans fluid is still red, checked this morning. Doesnt smell burnt. Gonna change filter, see if that changes anything.

have you actually hooked a scanner up to it to see if there is a code or are you just going off the check engine light. mine has had codes but no light before

Used a handheld. Quadzilla programmer. However, it wont show some codes. We hooked Mikes EFI up to my old truck and there were several body codes and one abs code that never showed up on the Quadzilla.....

My problem was only after the trans was warm. The trans was not stock. I damaged an o-ring on the pressure switch manifold when I rebuilt it the first time, and I think that may be what caused my problem. When I was having trouble, it just flat wouldn't go into reverse.
Bet there will be a code with a Tech 2. Make sure you look at engine and trans codes. There are times that a trans code will only show up in the engine section.

I swapped the spin-on this morning and it hasn't done it since, but I'll hold judgement for a few days, make sure it doesn't do it again.

~360 miles between now and then and hasn't acted up yet.... Still gonna try to pull codes (if there are any) but, without that, anyone think a dirty spin-on could cause this. Sliced it open, looked about like any other 10-12k mile spin-on.... dirty, but no metal shaving or foreign debris.
Used EFI today, checked for codes. Same thing.... couple bcm codes, one abs, one tranfer case (u1009 or someting like that), but nothing trans related. Up to 490 miles now since I swapped the spin-on and still running fine.
I guess I can hope its minor, maybe the filter ..... Just drive it for now.
