Replacing trans cooler lines

On my 03 LB7 , I got myself a built ATS trans that I'll be swapping in within the next few days and while I'm torn into the swap I planned on putting in new cooler lines as opposed to doing it down the road.

Anyways, once I have my trans pulled, I had the idea of pulling the cooler lines and taking them to town to a local shop and have high pressure rubber hydraulic hoses made up to match. The shop I speak of, we've had replacement hoses made up from them numerous times for tractors and ag equipment. I'd imagine they would have the correct fittings for me up at the front.

Now, at the back, the trans I have was in an LLY and was told the fittings coming out if the case are different to an LB7 and I figured some fittings to reduce it down to my hose size would work.

I was curious if this has been done before and wanted some feedback on it.

Cooler fittings in the 2001 through mid point 2003 were 3/4'. They changed to 7/8 from then on and continued to 2015.

Bumping this for an update and a quick question.

During my trans swap, I pulled all the factory cooler lines and had hydraulic hoses made up to match. Half inch lines using JIC fittings with fittings that threaded right into the trans and ones that would thread into the cooler (I have a bigger aftermarket cooler installed which actually took metric threaded fittings).

Now I failed to pull one of the fittings that go into the radiator at first but found out that those larger fittings have this retaining ring which holds like a tank, or a line, or something that is inside of the radiator. Those who have had these apart will know exactly what I'm talking about.

Leaving those...I don't know what those factory fittings are called...push-lock..whatever they are...on the radiator is what I will need to do. My buddy at the place where I got the lines made up gave me these fittings that have the same inside diameter as the factory lines and brazed on the male end of the line onto this fitting. Then I got a reducer to go onto the JIC fittings used on the lines.

The pictures do all the talking.

Now, my one question is...does anybody out there make a fitting with the flared male end that has the JIC threaded ends on the opposite end? Me and my buddy brazed two of the pictured fittings up tonight and they should work for me :fingerscrossed: I was just curious if there was anything out there to make a much better install for me. Thanks,.

The alligator kit has fittings that replaces the factor push to lock and screws into to the radiator. Your fitting looks scetchy at best.

Thanks! I will give Alligator a call first thing tomorrow. I know my fittings look pretty janky and know that's a lot sticking out and putting pressure on the radiator.

I've got a whole alligator line kit I'd sell you for $200. That's outrageous.

I'm planning on buildin my own set at work. The hose we have is rated at 2750 so I thank I'm good . What are the big tapered washers for that go on the radiator?

They hold a heat exchanger in place that is inside of the radiator itself.
