Replacing Rear differential yoke

Looks like I'm doing a rebuild of my driveline, a bad u-joint thrashed my rear yoke, and took out my transfer case with it . I have the old yoke off and the new one sitting there, but I am wondering how to torque it on there. I'v heard of using an inch pound torque wrench to measure preload, or mark the pinion and count turns and threads. I did mark the position of the old pinion and nut to the diff. Is there a way to get the new yoke on there without removing the axles and carrier?

I would not be the one to judge good sir, I did that to an 8.8 ford once. No noises and still runs, but I figured I'd take a more scientific approach to this one. :thumb:

I measured the threads that stuck past the nut. As I tightened I could feel where it was togt and started to add some crush so I stopped. Been over two years like that and no problems.

The new nut, washer, and yoke measured the same as the old ones, and I was able to mark the new nut at the same spot and it all lined up, giving me the measurement I took with a caliper (5.30mm). Thank you for your help!
