Is there any way I can replace the GPCM with something else? A better relay maybe on a timer? Mine is currently shit out and I dont want to replace it with another POS. Ideas???

So do you guys think I can just replace this POS with a burly relay? Im not sure exactly how it works. But I dont want to buy another one.

I think it would work just with a toggle switch, but im terrible with electric stuff.

I think but not sure that it is a 12 volt and not 5 volt for the glow plugs
Henry or Ben would probably know.

Another option is some guys are removeing there glow plugs for racing and pulling applications....Maybe you could buy there controller for cheap

This is true. I need to test my glow plugs too. But Im pretty sure its the controller.

do you have a kali or federal emissions truck?

I mean I suppose it would work, but I would be wary of setting up a "manual" glow plug controller on a duramax...they have solid state computer controlled GPCM's (and were designed to work with such) for a reason...(vs. just the old school manual timer)

I have a shitbox cali truck. I wouldnt do the switch thingy. I just dont see why a normal badass relay wont work? Because Im not going to put a stupid GM one in. It lasted a few years. I dont want to replace this a bunch of times.

Do you even really need the computer? Like all it is is a glowplug?

cali trucks are difficult because they have the more advanced GPCM that has independant control over all 8 glow plugs as opposed to simply bussing all the glow plugs together like federal emmissioins trucks. I think they run the same 4.7v glow plugs as the LLY+ engines (federal LB7 trucks run 12 volt glow plugs), so in that case theres no way you could run a relay. ECM would complain about there being no GPCM on the J1939 high speed data bus; and might mess up a LOT of things (or even crash the data bus) if you remove the GPCM because J1939 relies on terminating resistors and stuff on the high and low data wires...

Honestly...just replace the GPCM, im sure a cheap used one can be found.

just my opinion.

Thanks Ben .....I was just kinda wondering

What about if you wanted to remove the glowplugs and controller for say a racing application on a fed lb7?Do you think it would mess with the ECM
