How can I clean up the lime that has blanketed all the parts in my engine without harming the electrical or paint?

Google CLR I don't see why you couldn't use it, at last in a diluted form it is all natural.

You could try cider vinegar... it is cheap. I use it to remove calcium from my fish tank components & it dissolves the stuff rather well. Also works on faucet aerators.

Spray it on a dry, cool engine & see if it dissolves the stuff. There is probably some in your kitchen so it probably wont cost anything to try it.
