Some guy in a multi-color :D Dmax won the 6500 lb class in the first tug a truck put on by the local fair and made it to the semifinals in the 9500 lb class (someone said he was actually light for that class). Truck was bagged low enough to make 1lodiesel proud ;) and also had the hitch tied into the gooseneck. Several of them had the hitch setup like this. I didn't go but my buddy got some good footage. The last video is the finals in 6500.

RC looks like a tough little SOB - looks like hard on parts sport. Is that truck tugging gaining popularity over there? Might have to try starting it up over here. We're usually about 10 years behind USA :(

They tried that for a few of the "Diesel Pickup Nights" at The Buck, but it never caught on.
They had steel square stock about 10' long with hooks on each end, and attached it to clevis' on the trucks. The last one the bar came unhooked somehow and smashed through the outer skin of a Powerstroke's tailgate.

It was too much carnage and nobody wanted to try it...can't say I blame them.

I think it is popular around here because there used to be a big one in Wapakaneta, OH just south of Lima during the Jamboree (granted that one had more beer and b00bs than this one ). I won't do it to my truck but it is a sport that some like and more power to them.

At the end they allowed other trucks to have "grudge matches" for $5 a piece which I thought was cool. All the people spouting off in the crowd could hook to each other in a controlled environment and settle their differences on the concrete pad.

We have a buddy that likes to do it in his ford. i always told him it just meant he had the fattest, least powerful truck. He didn't think it was as funny as I did. He eventually went to fleece for a tranny after he fried it on asphalt holding back a Dodge dually.

it's popular around here in the dirt though.... for me, it's like watching paint dry. The do their thing, take off and spin the tires so slow as to not blow em lose. The just chirp the tires around slowly. Zzzz

It is just a matter of traction and some technique. Certainly not my cup of tea though.

Did I mention that the ones who are serious about it "bob" their beds and gut the interior, including glass? Yep, they hack their bed OFF just behind the wheel opening. There's a lite 4x4 class and a heavy 4x4 class. Then there's also a 2wd class. And yes, they bounce that front end 4ft+ off the ground. I kinda don't mind watchng the 2wds but the 4wd is boring to me.

A good many of the 2wds will run 6-cyl engines. Especially inline ones for their torque and I suppose because they are lighter weight.

I think the group is Northern Kentucky Truck Tuggers. Check 'em out if you're into this sorta thing.
