Everything except Pro Street will be running the 1/4 from what I've been told. I wish all ran the 1/4 but a lot of the guys think it's too unsafe. I guess if I wrecked at 115 it could be a little unsafe for me also.

Yea I heard that there has been alot of nasty talk about going to the 1/8 and not run the 1/4 anymore. I think that 4wd would do better in the 1/8 look at pro street in Holt last year the track was junk and Buck was runing a lot faster than the big 2wds, and broke in the semi and give the race to one of the slower cumapart a bye for the win.

I'm sure glad I live on the west coast where we are happy to run the 1/4 mile :thumb:

I have never felt unsafe in Casper :D

Breaking is racing... Do you see Top Fuel Dragsters dropping down to the 1/8? No and these things sway from side to side the whole way down.... it is understandable that they only run the 1000ft but these trucks are really fast if they run a 9'. The NHRDA runs 1/4 mile no bullshit:D

OK, first you need to think about it.

Cars go 340mph down a quarter mile.

Pickups have went about 200mph in the quarter.

I've been over 200mph in a stock suspension full bodied 2500HD pickup. Before the peanut gallery kicks in, I averaged over 197mph for 1/4mi, and over 193 for 1 mile, peak speed was over 200. And I wasn't on a prepared asphalt track. Heck, I've hit about 175 in the DIRT on Toyo street tires in a pickup.

These speeds are far and away faster than anything a Pro(Street) cough truck has run.

So it's not the MPH, no matter who says what. Nor is it the track length.

Nor is there a history of crashes with ProStreet trucks after the 1/8th mile beams. The problems have occurred before the 1/8th.

Now, if somebody has a purpose built race truck that is not safe at 115mph, then they set up or built the truck wrong. Period. 115 is safe in a street truck. I don't own a pickup that I haven't hit a buck fifteen in.

Have them fix their trucks and stop crying if that is indeed their problem. If their truck is unsafe at 115, then it probably should never get near a dragstrip. Nor would I want it next to me at any speed regardless.

There is a very small percentage of diesel hotrodders who are demanding 1/8th mile racing. They just complain louder.

The safety I'm talking about in refering to my truck is how well it will protect me. It is a lifted, big heavy truck. I'm for quarter racing and am not scared of running it either. I've seen some Pro Street crashes myself that were totaled trucks and most of what I've seen was avoidable. It was driver carelessness that caused the accident. These trucks aren't modified chassis like rails and such and surely aren't as safe but as they say "that's racing".

Have you seen a wreck that having a shorter track would have fixed?

Like I said, the wrecks have been in the first eighth, so cutting back the track would have no effect, the accidents would still happen.

Poorly setup 2wd efforts, and straight axle 4x4 setups (death wobble) have been the problem. These aren't really safe at 70mph in some cases. It's just bad handling. When they do go out-of-control, it starts at about the 330'.

It's not even questionable based on facts, history, or science that the "safety" argument is not valid for this demand to race 1/8th. So what is it? What is the basis for the demand?

Like above, the most damning evidence is that they let faster trucks run full track.

What puzzles me has to do with ignorance. These pleas for 1/8mi are coming from a very small group based in the south. Are they playing the "Stupid Card"? I know a lot of folk from the south and unlike what the TV protrays, they are no dumber than anyone else. Are these guys acting stupid to get the rules changed? Pity based rule making?

Or is the stereotype actually true, and I just accidently run into only the smart folk from the south? Is it all a coincidence? Naw, I ain't buying that.

Pat i understand you had a talk with Robert Donaldson of Team Green.he said you were very nice on the phone. that being said who is trying to change rules or force a way of racing on the rest of the diesel community. i have heard your gripe about the comifornia race, and for you it sucks but dude it was several years ago.get over it.if you dont show up to races you dont get a vote. i prefer 8th mile racing as does most others i know however that is what we race on all the time.as far as proven facts which is gonna be more dangerous hitn the wall at 110 or 140 plus,i vote 140 plus ,maybe its a southern thing.these faster vehilces you speak of running the 1/4 do they carry the same energy.ie... more speed but less weight. here is the big deal in the south we like to have races with full fields of racers. 8th mile races enable slower trucks to fill in the field and 2 crucial things happen. it makes for close, full field racing for the fans and makes the fast trucks run rounds to get the win.in my experience a truck like Stuckeys could sand bag big time an a low to mid 10 sec truck and beat em in the 1/4 hands down, however in the 8th they have less room for error and have to go more b2tw.
