So I have a BIG MFN Garret turbo. The seals went on it and I can't get another turbo handcarried into country as it weighs 65lbs!!

So I have a new cartridge coming for it, but I have never done a rebuild on a charger before.

Does anyone have any tips, info, or step-by-step instructions on how to rebuild a journal bearing turbo? I'm kind of in a tough spot here so any help would be appreciated.:hello:

IIRC the cartridge will come balanced, so providing there was not contact/damage to the housings, you should be able to unbolt everything then bolt in your new cartridge and be okay. Key word here is SHOULD

What about the bearing outer races. Does a guy need to press those out of the housing? I'm ASSuming it is a journal bearing as that is what is commonly used in this application as they are high heat and extended service turbo's.

The housing should be good as there is very little play in the shaft and it does not appear from the outside that there was any contact made with the housing. As far as cracks go I will do a quick visual but even if there are some, it's going together until the complete replacement shows up in a couple months.

It's company owned equipment anyhow, and I don't have any other options.

Thanks Guys!! I'll take pics and let y'all know how it went when I get it done!!
