Rear Left Window

Howdy all, I posted this to Duramaxforum with no help a few days ago.

Hey guys, my rear left window just died. Signal troubleshooting isn't an issue for me, but I don't know the wiring by heart of these trucks.

So, went to roll up my window, a click and a poof of smoke came from the rear left door panel/jam, near the wire look going into the body. Now the window goes down, but not up. I took the panel off and started taking voltages. It has the window down 12v signal at the motor but not window up. I don't read either voltage at the switch plug. Not sure if I have to keep the switch plugged in and measure? It has 12v HOT (ORANGE) and good ground. I know yellow and white are the signals and the dark blue and brown are motor power.

For now I reversed the polarity and got my window up. Idk how to go about troubleshooting the switch since it does in fact have a small circuit board in there. I also am unsure of what's in between the switch plug and the B-pillar.

Since I can't get voltage to pass the switch that's what I feel like is wrong, but I'm not positive.

Any help is appreciated.

Edit, I've cleaned and inspected all switches and boards. None have any damage or burnt components.

First off what year is your truck? Can’t see sig’s on crapatalk if it’s there.

Does it not work when trying either switch-drivers door or rear door?

Why do I keep doing this?

Thats a weird one. You checked the wiring inside the boot to the door and everything was a-ok? I think youve got a short in that harness, and have burnt out part of the motor itself. Just a guess though, as Im not there looking at it.

I believe from my remembery there is only 2 wires on the window motor so if it goes up but not down or vice versa if you switch the wires around on it it’s not the motor.

If both window switches don’t work in one direction only, you need to find where those two are tied into each other and you will likely find your problem at that point or after it somewhere. I’m assuming they both go to some kind of board or relay.

Looking at that schematic I’m going to say the window switch in the LR door is bad.

Sweet! Thanks for the schematic. So it was the RL switch. No evidence of bad circuitry. Went ahead and ordered it and sure enough it works.
