Anyone have any simple steps? I left my manual with my front diff at the mechanic in town so I have no idea on the steps to get my carrier out. Can anyone do it off the top of thier head?

Dunno but I assume pull the axles, pull the bearing caps, pop it out with a bar. I need to look into mine too, G80 isn't doing shit anymore, which really sucks when it's icy out. What are you doing in yours?

I would do a write up if I knew what I was doing. I should have my front diff (and GM manual) back tomorrow, I can maybe do a write up this weekend. Maybe it would just be easier to copy the manual? :D

That would be the torsen unit? Does it come with a complete new carrier or reuse the G80 carrier? If it's a new carrier does it come with the bearings pressed on already? I am tempted to take mine apart and just weld the damn gears together for now until I can afford the better locker. I'm not going to be towing heavy until summer anyway. I just get tired of spinning all the time, can't go anywhere in the snow without 4wd hardly.

Yes, its the torsen unit. It has its own carrier, and the bearings were not pressed on. I was gettin tired of leaving one-wheel-wonders too! :D

Yeah, I saw that thread, but I didnt have much for assembly and dis-assembly instructions. Good pictures though. My governor looks just like his did!

Well.......I ran into some "issues" today. First I thought I would just figure out how to do it myself. The Cross pin is held in by a roll pin that looks like I have to come in from the backside of the ring gear to knock it out. I didnt have any roll-pin punches so I went to go get my AAM ready to put in.....the carrier bearings were 1/2" too small on the ID! I panic'd and called the place I took my front diff to to make sure I didnt give them the wrong bearings. They hadnt even started on it yet and they promised it done at the end of the week. :( BUT, the bearings were right for the front. So, I callled ACCU and they couldnt get anything out until Monday. I wont get them until at least Tuesday/Wednesday. Its gonna make my goal to be all done by next weekend hard to meet! I did grab my manual so I can get my G80 apart though. I'm heading out to the shop for an hour or so now, I'll let you know what I find out.

Wow, it was a lot simpler than what I was trying to do. I thought I had to take the center out of the carrier to get to some axle clips....Wrong. All I had to do was take the 8(?) bolts off that hold the axle to the hub and then the axles pull right out. I used a punch and some light tapping to back off the bearing adjusters after I took the caps off and it fell right out. Now I just need the right bearings. I was going to take pics and do a write up, but thought the pics would look better after I do Maxlly's rotor mod. :D I 'll take pics on re-assembly.
