Pathetic though it may be, im at 173k on my truck and still on the originals haha. Shocks are on the list believe me. From what I've read here and heard from other non forum Dmax buddies, it sounds like adjustable Rancho 9000s are the unanimous favorite?

That is what I have been reading and hearing also! I have bilsteins on the front of my lmm and I need a dual shock setup or something different. driving down a rough highway the front end is way to bouncy. Bilstein have hardly any time on them my guess is the front end is way to heavy with the procomp lift and it needs a dual hoop setup with some better shocks?:confused:

so far i have nothing bad to say about the ranchos but they are also pretty new. i have a set of the old 5 positions on my samurai that have been on it since 2001 and they are finally wore out but only have 20k on them. i beat the tar out of them so i really can not complain on those

IMOP, stay away from the dual shock hoops if possible. they will kill your UCA ball joint quickly as they were never designed to control the weight of your suspension, wheel and tire. I would look into some foxes or the ranchos where you can adjust them and just run a single shock

This is true. Shocks are just a wear and tear item.

Call me crazy but I'm thinking I'm gonna try a set of 5100's infront and amset of 9000xls in back. I like the valving they do for the fronts and the extra length. Ranchos don't have this option for us leveled guys and I really would like the compression adjustment for the rear when I hook up the fiver.

I never hear anyone state how the different shocks have affected their tires. If it made them chop more or less. It gets a little old constantly having to rotate these heavy chevy's.

i'm on my second set of bilsteins. first set lasted just under 100k miles and I have almost 80k on this set. the factory shocks went out at 8 k and I rode them out till 20K when I finally had enough

I have been a firm believer rear resivoir shocks are a must for guys runin A: larger tires B: regularly towing(especially a buper tow) C: constantly launching hard, accelerating through a few gears/ off-roading D: all of the above
Why?
More oil, they run cooler, last longer, dont get nearly as hot and provide a much mor consistent ride quality, especially when towing! This is JMHO from my experience
