Due to the LBZ piston cracking issues I decided to buy a block that had been in a fire hoping to have a spare block, crank, cam, pistons.

I'm not 100% sure on the history of the motor, but I found it got HOT. Most of the oil drained out (oil pan burned through), and much of the inside the oil seared off. The engine was in a garage uncovered and a little rust settled in. In a normal engine the coating of oil in the motor would have been enough, but much of the internals were rusted (the heat must have cooked the oil film off).

The pistons look good enough to reuse in an emergency (low miles). The block should be able to be cleaned up, the cam is TOAST (the only good spot were where the lifters sat as all other parts of it rusted), but I'm wondering about the crank. Do you think it OK. You can see where the bearings cooked and left traces on the crank in the pics. Is it worth trying to salvage or say F it?

I had a bitch of a time pulling most of the lifters out as they had rust rings and gunk buildup.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT How do you remove the clips for the wrist pins from the piston?

Does anyone think the cam could be used as a core?

Also if anyone has CHEAP LBZ front/rear covers, upper/lower oil pan, block heater, dipstick, oil cooler, etc. Please let me know.

Thanks.

If it got that hot I honestly would feel comfortable using any of it. Youll put alot of hard work into a motor and to use parts that youre uncertain of is a monstrous gamble. Just my opinion.
