I absolutely love the way the truck drives with the EFR. I actually did some data logging last week and am super happy with the results. However, the EFR doesn't have a real good track record on these diesels, they just don't like the higher boost pressures and shaft speeds, so it's vital that you keep that under Borgs recommended max. Which, in my application hasn't been a problem.
From my other thread:
Did some data logging with my Insight CTS yesterday. I've got the turbo gated at 28-psi to keep shaft speed below Borgs recommended limit. Drive pressure with the 13cm T3 stainless housing runs at 38-psi drive at wide open throttle. Shaft speed maxes at 101,000rpm, so I could probably adjust the gate to allow 30-32psi boost and still be within its shaft speed limits.
Running through the gears from a dead stop my EGTs hit 1280-degrees at 58mph, staying in it until 80mph they maxed at just 1306-degrees. So between 60 and 80mph under hard acceleration EGTs only go up about 25-degrees. Needless to say I'm extremely happy with the way this thing is running now.
While this EFR should be more than enough turbo to support 700hp, I don't see it surviving at that level. In my truck (stock fueling and 550hp level), I'm pushing it near it's max boost and shaft speed threshold (115,000rpm). With the HTT gated housing on it, I've been able to control boost/drive and keep the shaft RPM below the 'safe limit', so it's been working quite well for me (3,000+ miles so far). Spools and drives every bit as good as the IHI did, except with a stronger top end and lower EGTs.
