Hitting the small hill in Yuma with trailer, sounds like lifters were coming out.. I would assume its injector rattle?

Runs fine at lower rpm or higher rpm on flat ground. egts never been over 900.(post turbo)

not enough fuel?

nothing to worry about. My truck does the same thing. Wont hurt it at all. It was explained to me what it was and I've forgotten.

So Cal.
A Lot louder is subjective to each person.

You still have stock injectors? How many miles on them? Which truck is this?

If you're just barely into the throttle and creep up on 2500, it's gonna seem loud...If you're WOT from an idle, you won't even notice...

Disclaimer...All trucks/owner's ears are slightly different :D

Our '02 does/sounds the same @ 135,000 miles...

Blue (04 LLY) did that big time when new. Freaked me out. Thought I bought a lemon at first.

Now, I don't even notice it. Did it go away? No. It's like the lift pump noise, turbo whine, or exhaust drone. It now is the sound that everything is OK.

HOWEVER... Not to be confused with bring in the timing and fuel in too fast in a hotrod build. Put a big charger on, then use stock timing/fuel curves, and it will sound like hell and run like crap. It won't come on a certain RPM, it comes on when applying throttle before you have enough boost.

Can't the Pilot Injection be disabled or isn't by most that are tuning these trucks? It isn't necessary to have what it's for is to quiet the diesel and something to do with emissions if I recall.

Apparently not for some reason I thought that it was disabled as it is above 2500 RPM anyway? I don't hear any difference at all in my truck . Perhaps I have it backasswords.

Must sound like a old naturally aspirated Ford
