Well, I am out in New Mexico visiting my brother, and the auto club was running an autocross event. And, at the end of the day, they let me run my Duramax (mostly as a joke)!

I drove through the course once to see the layout, then did an "official" pass:

Lol, at 8,000+ lbs I don't think it was half bad. I totally screwed up the hairpin (I should have spun the tires, but for some reason tried to grip the corner). I ended up having to throw it in reverse to make the turn

All in all, I completed with a time of 1:10. I believe I ate 4 cones, which isn't too bad considering the course was set up for small cars. (Cones add 2 seconds each.) The best time of the day was 0:51 (in a Miata). I figure I could have shaved 3-4 seconds off my time if I had nailed the hairpin.

Yeah, it is super fun. I got to ride in the 2nd fastest car of the day, and DANG can those suckers stop compared to my truck. Of course, they weight less than half what I do...

Interestingly, the hardest part of the course (besides being designed for a wheelbase 2' shorter than mine) was the lame power steering on my truck. It is fine for highway and limited off road, but trying to go from one lock to the other while braking is really difficult. I ended up having to ride the throttle and brake at the same time just to be able to turn

Actually, now that i think about it, my hydroboost may be the source of the problem... I wonder if it is working right?

Nice run I was expecting to see a lot more "drifting". I would of probably got mad at missing the turn and started doing donuts.

LOL Dave, that looked like fun! Gotta like the little puffs of black smoke when you were getting on it. :thumb:

Yeah, I was tempted, but they were letting me run as a favor, and I didn't want to step on any toes. Lol, they all thought my "big 4x4" was going to roll :spit: I totally screwed up that corner, I was kind of mad at myself for that.

It was a blast, I wish there was time for 2 runs, but I was the last of the day (only way they'd let me run at all).

Yeah, I like that little bit of black. I played with my MAF limiting and that is the best balance I could get between low-smoke and actually lighting the turbo. I can light it a little faster, but I black out intersections :D
