How many of you shut off your pilot inj on your race tunes?Or when using bigger sticks?

Minne is shut off at 2000 rpm at 50mm3+ Just wondering if others do this too?

I do the same. Big injectors and high pressure means to much fuel in the pilot shot.:baby:

Could someone please give me a general description and purpose of pilot injection?

Im not a diesel injection guru or tuning wonder. But your pilot inj happens before your main injection. It gets the fire lit and started. That is how it was explained to me. So feel free to correct me.

Sure
for the most part it is noise reduction it is a pre shot to the main injection that basically gets the fire going with out the bang,Its also used for emission purposes

Bigger injectors and big fueled tunes should not need this as they add enough fuel to NOT need a pilot( correct timing)

Gm shuts it off after ther BIG:baby: fuel is commanded and IMO if we command big fuel it needs to be shut off sooner

old cumins dont use a pilot injection.....if you listen closly you can here one ideling now:rofl:

This is not a real good explanation but the just of it......If you want to learn more use Google and SAE has lots of papers on it,Even duramax specific

So why not just reduce the pilot PW? Atleast to a certain point of rpm or mm3.

I know i dont want it at wot just trying to find a happy medium

I am running a reduced PW when I use pilot. But you can only reduce PW so much. Just like trying to use pressure to tune at idle. If your PW gets to small it wont run smooth. Balance rates go to poop. The only way to put less fuel at idle for me was to lower pressure and leave the pulse near stock. Balance rates are dandy and the truck idles smooth.

I reduced my pulse and lowered my pilot timing. But after 2000rpm I shut it off.

So if we are running big tunes such as 3000pw we knock it down on the pilot injection side then? From a certain mm3 on up?

I tried shutting it off, just to experiment, but I could never get it to work right on my LLY. Apparently, zeroing out the pilot injection table(s) won't work, although it appears the LBZ/LMM's can disable it much easier. How do you shut it off all the time in the LLY's?

LLY VS LB7 is slightly different,Look at B0749 and b0750

I cant remember what i adjusted on my LLY but i got it to shut off:D
