Quick connect trans cooler lines...

I replaced the radiator and trans oil cooler in my truck. The replacment parts are supposed to be from a duramax. I am having trouble getting the quick connecters back into the radiator and the trans oil cooler. They are so close to going in, but just won't go. Anyone have any tips or tricks to getting these installed?

Thanks

Lil dab of oil on them and make sure they are straight and then give it a bump with the palm of your hand

Dumb question but the retaining rings or clips are not in there are they?

Explane in detail what you are trying to do. You are not very clear.

There are quick connect connectors on the transmission, the passenger side of the radiator and the transmission oil cooler. They all appears to be the same type. I was able to get the two into the transmission with no problems. However I can not get the aluminum lines to go into the transmission ports on the radiator or into the trans cooler fittings. The fittinges looks like the one on the top of this page:

FYI if LB7 Tranny lines/fittings are different size from LLY. I hope this isn't your issue.

Dale i am pretty sure the thread is different and thats it.....NOT the line size. So it shouldnt matter

The tips are different on the end of the lines. Later fittings take a line with extended tip. If you try and use an extended tip line on an early fitting it won't go in.

Well that sucks.... So Mike, do you have a break down on what years have what tips. My lines are from an '02. The radiator and oil cooler were from a salvage yard and I don't know the years. Can I change the fittings on the radiator and oil cooler? Can I order new lines?

Thanks.

So are the fittings in the transmission all the same? In other words can I order '04-'05 lines? Also, what are the two different fitting called? Mike you said one was "extended". How would I search for one or the other?

Thanks

You have opened a can of worms here. Find out what year parts you bought.

I think I have my answer. I talked to a radiator distrubutor and when you order a new radiator you get two different sized fittings for the Trans cooler on the side of the radiator. The shoulder on one is like 21mm and the other is about 20mm. So not much different. Looks like only the dealer has them and they are about $40 apiece. I will keep looking to see if I can find someone with a spare set. I might also look at just ordering new lines. Not sure if the '01- '03 are interchangable with the '04-'05

Mike, not much luck finding fittings to convert my radiator. Here is what I believe I have:

'02 reg cab truck with orginal Allison trans
Radiator from an '05
Ext trans oil cooler from an '05

Can I buy oil cooler lines from an '05 and use them on the '02 trans with '05 rad and trans oil cooler?

Will the '05 lines fit the '02 trans?

Thanks
