Question on rods...

Rods....

I hear everybody talking about bending rods lately, now I'm assuming thats connecting rods and not push rods. I also hear that the higher the torque the more likely you are to bend rods.

My questions are...

How much torque does it take to do damage?
And can I do damage with a stock fuel system, stock lbz charger, and efi live?

lb7/lly rod usually bend ~525-550 mark.

LBZ rods are alittle stronger and bend about the 550-600 range..

normally they bend after dual cp3 are added.

I wondering about torque though

I want to make a tune specifically for the dyno to tune for low end torque instead of horsepower.

I believe you are in danger starting at about 1200ftlb. 1500+ ftlb seems to be uniformly lethal.

I have made a 797rwhp + 1090ftlb tune for Casper. I believe it would be safe on stock rods.

From what i've gathered horsepower doesn't break parts. In a few weeks ill be in the 600hp range running a tune that keeps torque around 900tq. Of course nothing lives forever

98,000 miles and lots and lots of 520hp/1100hp dyno and drag race runs coupled with a couple of 600hp and 1200ftlbs nitrous runs on a stock motor and my LB7 rods are .010-.025 short.

I think with a stock charger, stock fuel system, and EFI Live, you might be able to bent the stock rods also, good luck!!!!

How about when adding nitrous, does that jack the tq way up like on a gasser?

My thoughts on nitrous is to make sure the shot cannot come on at less than 2500 rpm.

Nitrous adds a lot of torque and advances the effective timing. The first bent rods and cracked pistons showed up on stock trucks running tuning + nitrous.
