i have my engine out for head gaskets leaking and have a question after seeing my pistons and comparing them to those that have posted pics of them on here. mine are black. no spray pattern marks or flower pattern marks from the injectors, just a coated black. any thoughts as to why? is it bad that they are like that? my timing really never exceeds 28* and the lower left half of my timing table isnt high, for example 100 mm3 and 1600 rpm is 15.3*. i do have a knock/rattle noise when i accelerate quickly from a dead stop or to pass someone on the highway. steady accel doesnt do it, just when you make a big jump in thottle quick. thanks for the insight, if you need more info let me know.

LB7s have larger injectors. That seem to soot the piston more. The smaller the injector, the more pronounced the spray patterns seem. LLY are more noticable than LB7s. LBZs are more noticable than LLYs and so on.

FWIW
My piston with fire hose large LB7 injectors.:happy2:
