Is this the stock trans that came in my truck? And how can I tell if its been "built"?

There is really no way to check if it's built or not without looking at the torque converter or inside.

Best bet is to find some records, ask what converter is in it, or see if it's holds power really well by data logging

Looks like it was made in August 2001...does that correlate to the manufacture date of the truck, your sig says its an 01 also, so it seems fair to "assume" it could be the original trans, but that's not a guarantee

As far as I know, there is no externally visible way to discern if the transmission has been "built" the best way to figure it out without tearing it apart would be to data log it and see what kind of line pressure it puts out, also, what temps does it run? Built transmissions have a tendency to run a little warmer than a stock trans, how is your truck put together? Most people don't build the trans for no good reason, if the truck has a bunch of aftermarket stuff and efi live and a bunch more power than stock, you just may have a built trans.

Otherwise, I doubt it.

Take the converter inspection cover off (in front of the spin on filter) and take a peek. You will be able to tell if its stock converter or not :thumb:

I bought this truck as is and I'm still finding stuff that has been done it.

It had an external fuel tank , trailer brake kit, and lord knows what else but most of it has been removed. It has also been programmed, it seems to me the truck was mainly used for pulling heavy loads a lot. I wish I could get ahold of the guy that did all the stuff but I bought it from my brother in law and he bought it from a dealership so I don't know how to find out who used to own it. and this is the first diesel I've owned and I'm only 22 years old so I've got a lot of learning to do.

And also I'd say my trans runs about 195f

That's nothing in Texas or should I say normal for most trucks built or stock. There is no real way of knowing without getting inside except putting a big tune in it and seeing if you have to limp home. Not recommended!

I mean sure you could see if the TC is a different color ,if it is what does it tell you other then it might have been changed still doesn't tell you what has been done internally!

The tq converter will be allot different for a built trans yes, however, if the trans was freshened up at any point, a trans go jr kit could have been utilized, that's not a built trans, but it would have considerable more holding power than stock but utilize the stock converter:thumb:

Google search: how do I find out who owned my car before me:thumb:

I think there are ways to find out through car fax, or your local DMV, but I don't think you will get a phone # and address, probably just a name

I once bought a lmm with a cracked piston. Plan was to build tranny while I had the motor out. Pulled motor first and much to my suprize a 1056 was hiding inside. Figured since the truck had dpf delete and previous efi live I got lucky with a built trans.

500whp tune and 3 days after the motor was it I had a c1 pack that was melted together. Pulled tranny and it didn't even have a transgo jr.

Don't base "built-ness" off of a converter. Lesson learned haha

Is there even a sensor for that? Now that I think about it I believe there is a port on the trans to plug a pressure sensor into but idk if there is any pressure sensors that relay info back to the ECM.

The port is the only place you can check pressure. Data logging will tell you nothing.
