question about mikes pressure spring and converter valve

Upcoming in a build, I read about doing mikes pressure regulator spring instead of shimming the regulator.

Seems pretty straight forward...instead of adding a shim just swap springs correct?

And for the converter flow valve, I know the transgo kit comes with the new valve, plug ball and spring. Now the hype of grinding a groove/flat on the end of the valve seems to be better for no converter knock down. The truck is only a daily driver at 500hp and nothing more. Is it necessary to have the stock valve modified for no knockdown or will it create a harsh lock up? I can understand on higher hp trucks needing it just seeing if its needed in this case, or if just installing the new valve will be ok. Thanks...

The shim ( .130 ) will raise your stock pressure ( 230psi ) to 255psi. My spring alone will put you at 290psi. Adding one shim to my spring will put you at about 315-320psi. Using 2 shims with my spring will put you at 350psi.
I have found no pump wear or damage with any of these pressures. Temps will go up with higher pressures.
Don't go crazy with pressure if you don't need it. Pressure beats up converters and crank. Mileage will suffer also.

How do you know what pressure to set it to?

I did a lot of reading and saw in the thread mike released the spring, he sees in older builds now that the spring is getting weak in trannys built 5+ years ago from mileage.

Easy to say I think Ill be using the spring but no shims for my application.

Now mike, how about the knockdown question?

For a 500hp daily driver, do you think its recommended to eliminate knockdown? Truck won't be drag raced or pulled just driven on the street. Didn't know if it was necessary as its not a big high horsepower built. Whats your opinion? thanks

I personally for that kind of power would stick with the TRANSGO and the orange spring. I don't see any reason for a mild truck to run pressures that high all the time. But that's just me. IF you think you may go bigger later though, you might want to consider eliminating it. Most here know how the HP bug bites you, and leaves you wanting more and more.

How much difference in lock up firmness is there going from transgo valve to a valve eliminating knockdown? If its not a big difference I will just grind the stock valve and be done with it.

I won't be doing the work on it, I know to leave it to someone that gets paid for doing it. Was wanting asking abt pump pressure, didn't know if more was better and if so when does too much hurt? I plan on dd tuning be around 700ish I know traction is the limiting factor I don't need to be wrecking it, thank you

mike I'm going to send u a message, let me know if its easier to call you to respond and i will give you a shout

You should be talking to the guy you are paying to do the work, not me.
If you don't think he knows enough; cut him loose and find someone better.
Have you even asked him these questions? Seems to me he should have been your first contact.
My customers do not come in the door telling me what someone else recommended I do. If they did I would show them the door. Any good builder will react this way.
Make some phone calls. Ask a lot of questions from people that have had work done by said builder. Ask them if they would do it all over again.
If you have to copy and paste info to give to your builder; you are in the wrong shop. Run.

I trust the builder, just asking questions (not trying to step on any toes or push buttons). I don't think you had the pump spring when it was built the first time, now that I'm going bigger on the compoud setup (gtx4202/gt5541) he wanted to go through it to make sure it's good.

I don't think this was directed to me. As I am doing my own....and all I asked was mikes spring and the knockdown
