Allison 6sp: Question about internal trans filter

I put a Trango Jr in my trans over the weekend and installed a new Duralast internal transmission filter that was obtained at Autozone. The filter didn't fit that well and would barely stay suspended when I put the pan on the trans. I was leery of it but used it anyway. I had to pull the pan after a test drive to fix a wiring problem and the filter dropped into the pan when I lowered it. I was really leery of the filter after that and reinstalled the original filter rather than trust the Duralast part. The factory filter fits snugly and has to be pulled out of the trans, so my question is should I have trusted the Duralast? Is it necessary for the filter to fit snugly or does it rest on the bottom of the pan once installed thereby preventing it from falling out of the transmission body.

It does rest on the bottom of the pan. But I still wouldn't trust it if it fits that loosely. But in all honesty I would trust a duralast anything in a vehicle other then an old clunker. Do yourself a favor and go buy a filter from your local Allison dealer or a vendor on here.

Thanks for the quick reply. I assume you meant to say that wouldn't trust Duralast products.
