well first time for everything i guess.

currently working for a large construction company that specializes in waste water treatment plants, been with them for a year and a half, since the beginning of my senior year in college. in the upcoming weeks i was to be moved into the office and then onto another jobsite working as an in the field engineer.

but i gave them my 2 weeks notice today, 3 hours and 140 miles of driving a day just wasnt going to work for me right now and didnt want to consider relocating.

was just approached by a large machine shop with an opening in quality control, will be starting on january 10th, 1/4 mile commute. equal salary and better benefits. they specialize in deep holes, much of there processes are proprietary. hopefully will gain some access to design and build personal projects.

i guess this job is the first thing i have ever quit in my life and certainly did not enjoy doing it, worked with a great group of people, just hope its a step in the right direction

Best of luck, hope it all works out for you.

I understand the driving aspect, already have 65k miles on a truck I've owned for 16 months. Gets old watching the odometer climb like that:(.

the unpaid driving time just cuts into your free time too much, especially the last 6 months we had been working 5, 10 hour days plus 2 hours of driving a day left no time for play

i guess i work to live not live to work

Good Luck with your new endeavor. I have been there and know how you feel.

The deep hole drilling stuff is easy I have been doing it for 4 years. Now mind you I make parts for oil drilling for a few of the biggest names out there and worked for 3 years at Cougar Tool in Edmonton Ab. what a lax job that was lol.

the company has 260 employees, and is starting me and 9 others on January 10th.

not many places are hiring much less 10 at a time
