not sure but would this have anything to do with my transfer case not having fluid in it i bought it while i was in afghanistan and i still am dad went up and test drove it and everything was fine and the dealship said they changed all the fluids and about 2 weeks ago dad used it at our farm and went to use 4wd and its made a weird noise so he broght it to a chevy dealership closer to where i live and there was no fluid

If your going to be running it hard i would,i had 2 spare cases and between my truck and my parents work truck the pump ate the case on these.I bought some cheap 1s from Idaho transmission warehouse
JMAZ268 had a really nice 1 that he got from merchant but it required use to take it apart a little more. The 1 in my truck only made noise in 4 wd also. id start looking for a good transfer case to swap out its easy to do, but before you reinstall buy a set of trans snap ring pliers as you cant split the cases and install the pump rub fix so this doesnt happen again.Good luck

Do a search on you tube. "Merchant Automotive pump rub upgrade Truck U" should give you a good idea what needs to be done and why. Full instructions are on merchants website in the lower left hand corner. I just did mine and considering the kit is 99 bucks and a new transfer is a lot more. I did the upgrade and just in time too.

Put a kit in the new case...

Merchants kit is really nice. There are cheaper options that work just as good. ;) I think Tony Burkhardt (All Season) sells both kits. Take your pick. :D

nothing too special....simple and easy. I swapped the seal that the driveshaft yoke slides into at the same time...

Mine had been leaking a slight amount awhile back and think it was getting some water in the transfer case, cause fluid was pretty milky when I drained it.
