Pump Rub Install Question

Since my trans out out I decided to do a pump rub kit. Thank go I did. It was wore pretty good. But anyways. Is the snap ring for the output shaft suppose to have a little slop to it? Has some side to side play but no in and out. Below is the link to the part I am talking about.

I just did one and it was the same way.

Mine was really tight.

Some times if they are really sloppy I'll take and just give it a slight pull with one side in the vice to open it up just a bit. But ya they have a little room to move. If they were any bigger you would never get it to come loose.
