Anybody that has pulled the engine got any advise or tips?

Can the hood stay on?

Can I leave the turbo on?

Any special tools needed?

From the looks of things can remove the core support and all it attached goodies with out much hassle. To me it looks pretty straight forward.

That picture is why I asked. :)

I already have it torn down to the core support. That went way easier then I thought it would have. A phillips head screw driver, 10mm socket was all it took to get this far. For some reason I think that Dmax will be easier to remove than the 350 out of my 95 k2500.

Pat says pull anything that your going to pull later anyway to make it lighter.

Also have a engine stand ready for it. He says Summit has one for $100-150.

I'd suggest removing as much off the motor as you can, also. I took it down to the shortblock, which was a little extreem, but made it a fairly easy pull. If you leave the tranny, getting the oil pan to clear the front diff is a bit tricky. GM suggest removing the small pan before removal. Strap the tranny up with a nylon strap around the bellhousing to support it. Be careful not to bend the A/C condensor lines. The condensor will pull over to the pass side for clearance. Also Lower your torsion bars all the way down before you start. The couple of inches drop will make a big difference while working on the motor. Theres some other stuff that may help. If I think of them, I'll post. Good luck. BTW, forget about it being as easy as your 350.

Thanks Guys

I all ready have a engine stand from Summit. Cherry picker also. I plan on dropping the trans clean out before pulling. I have had the trans out several times. Pretty easy job. It is little lighter than the Alli.:)

That aluminum case makes you wonder doesn't it? Same with the t-case, easy to move around w/ one hand?? What would happen if some kinda steel shrapnel came flying outta there? Do they sell blankets for these things?

May I ask why you are rebuilding?? Lots of questions I know but don't worry, i'll come up with some more shortly. Oh, here we go...
When you pull do you normally use 4H or 4L? Know of anyone who uses mud tires when pulling? If not then why? Do you have a short shifter? If so who makes it?
Phew! thanks for bearing with me.

i think the next time we pull the engine we are going to take a sawsall and saw the upper brace on the core support on the inside of the head lights. that way it can be removed quickly and not have to remove the core support. then tig weld tabs onto it where it can be bolted back into place when done. what do you guys think???
