Whats the thoughts on DRW setup for spacing, ive seen guys run them touching in the center, some run 2" space between the side walls, ive seen guys have to put the outer one on with a ratchet strap just to get the lugs started. My thoughts are ~ tires away from each other a lil to let the side walls do some work and let the tires dig...but maybe im thinking wrong? Thoughts?

Thanx~Caleb

I'm told the DOT will tow your truck if the wheels touch at all here in BC as they will heat up.

Pretty sure he is talking about a sled pulling set up. ive seen them both ways and they both hooked well for what its worth. my duals touch on my truck. i was trying to keep it as narrow as possible.

Best traction I would think a little space would be better as one sidewall is not affecting the other. Although it may only be a matter of .000001" at the end of the day (don't know of any test to confirm).

The most important thing is keeping the wheels centered (or as close to possible) to the wheel bearings. I believe Tony and others have seen failures of the spindle if duals and incorrect offset is used. I know there was talk on a couple of forums about this (not sure which ones I saw it on though).

My Duals touch with a 2" spacer. I broke a spindle but I think it was caused by how my axle broke then binded up. My spindles were straight, but my axle tubes were bent. I'd like to narrow it up, but a lot of rules won't allow it. Im at 99 3/4 outside to outside now.

Does a dually rear end have stronger axle tubes then a 2500? Or what are the other differences?

No, like tony said, ur tires will be resting over the bearing which puts less stress on thr spindles. If ur bending tubes only a truss/gusset or narrowing up the rear end will help.

I understand now. I'm running Tony's dually axle and rims out of DH1 so I'm hoping it lasts a while.

Mine touch, they actually will hold water :roflmao: Not saying it's good or bad, but, it's what works for me.

The dually rear housing is wider. Keeps the rims centered between the bearings in the hubs. That's why I tossed the springs and went solid with my srw axle. My rims are almost perfectly centered on the hubs.
