Problems with brake controller

I have been having problems with the truck not activating the trailer brakes.

I have lights, signals, yada yada, but no worky with the brake action.

I have a Prodigy controller and when I activate either the brake pedal or the slide on the controller I get a n.c. (not connected) message on the controller.

Checked fuses and made sure I had the right harness but to no avail.

Any help would be utterly fantastic.

Mucho gracias.

Check the harness that the truckside trailer plug goes into. It's back under the bumper. I had some corrosion in there that was causing the same problem. Cleaned it out and apiece some dielectric grease and has been fine ever since

Did it all work previously?

Have you checked all the grounds on the trailer?

Yes it worked previously. I don't think it is the trailers as they work with all the other trucks that pull them.

I'll check it out. The truck does have plug-in in the bed, that won't activate the brakes either, so could my problem possibly be because of it?

Get a helper and a test light. Have them step on the brakes and check the pin on the trailer plug in to make sure you're getting power to it.

You can check the wiring on the axles also. Some axles have the wires running from one side to the other inside the tube. Sometimes they like to rub thru where they enter and exit the axle tube.

So there are other trucks that pull this trailer without issue?? If thats the case then it has to be rated to your truck.

Typically the in-bed splits off the bumper plug. If neither work than it might be at the splitter. Check all the connectors and wires back there.

I've narrowed it down to my truck before, I just mentioned the fact that other trucks can pull the trailers fine because somebody mentioned to check the trailers.

It's at the splitter for sure. It is a shit show of a wiring job at best. I'm gonna wrangle through the rat's nest and try to figure it out.

Should be fun.

If the wiring appears to be good or you fix it and it still doesn't work, it's possible your controller ate the green wiener. I have gone through two Digital Drawtite's in 5 years with the same symptoms. They do fail.

It's brand new so I would hope that the POS didn't shit the bed.

I know what you are saying though. I burned through the cheapest Tekonshaw...I forget the model or what not...so yes they do go bad, but hopefully not in one week haha.

I have had problems with the connections back there and it's always been with the wires on the back of that plug on the truck side.

I had the exact issue with my Prodigy controller as well. Only while towing my buddies trailer. Turns out his trailer connector was a bit on the worn side so it wouldn't make a very good connection to the trailer plug on the pickup. I took a small screwdriver and spread all the terminals apart in the plug on the truck. Worked flawlessly since. That's one thing I don't like about the Prodigy's/factory GMT 900 units. If it loses connection it stops sending the trailer brake voltage.

Thanks for the help fellas.

The truck's wiring was corroded, not bad but I still fixed it, and also the trucks plug in a plug had some corroded terminals. I had power to the brakes up to that point.

I'm going to wire in both the plug in a plug and a new female plug for the truck.

Hopefully I'm good to hook after that. Thanks again for the help.
