Anyone know what metal PPE uses for their flanges? More specifically, the rod type needed or welder needed for said metal to weld on it...I know nothing about welding:confused: :eek:

The weld broke down between the pipe and flange of the up pipe, on the manifold side, and now I have a pretty massive leak, before I take it out and to a local shop I figured I should try and get some information first...

I imagine a proficient welder would know exactly what's what, however I don't, so I wouldn't know if the guy is legit or not...I don't want to have to do this again, or possibly let someone make a bigger problem....

IDK, maybe it doesn't even matter? That's just it though, I'd like to know:eek:

I can just send it to ppe I suppose, I'm just trying to eliminate some down time. I've already called and talked to my sales rep there and my options are to send it out and they will weld it up or buy a new one, or let a local do it which would/could void any further warranty of the product...

They are and will, if I choose to take the time to send it out....:rolleyes:

Ok, thank you, but is there anything specific that would be beneficial to know, if the welder tech says I'm gonna use this with this rod and this heat or amperage, I want to know I heard it here first and he's doing the right thing

I'm being paranoid, but I've had less than stellar work done in the past and want feel like I can make a better decision this time:rofl:

I'm just trying to be somewhat informed before I make a choice. I am hoping to be able to communicate a little bit with the welder.

My little brother is actually a welder, he works abroad and is currently in South Africa and I haven't talked to him in months or seen him in years, but I remember in school he would get welding assignments that read something like: 1/4" stainless plate, single pass, channel weld, butt joint, xx amperage, yy duration....I don't remember, it was 20+ years ago and I was in carpentry and hated metal...lol but that type of info is what I am after:) shoulda paid more attention then I suppose :/

I can either send it off and have my truck sit in the garage for two weeks, or I can try and gain some knowledge to make a good decision and choose to have a local shop get it done in a day and have my truck down for one night. If the local guys screws it up, or it only lasts a few months, weeks or even days then I'm out $250 for a new up-pipe and have even more down time. So you can understand why I am looking for some info first;)

Well guys, at first I did feel somewhat entitled to a new one, but then I realized, either way I'm out the time if I choose to send it out to ppe, with winter setting in, now is not the time to be without my truck...

I'm totally fine with having it welded, I do not feel like I need or deserve a "new" one, so long as it doesn't leak when it gets back on the truck I'm happy:D

Well I weld for a living. If they stainless is it 308 or 410? It isn't a huge deal but it would be nice to have it welded with the right rod. I'd grind and v it out then tig weld it instead of mig.

Assuming you didn't bang on it with a hammer or something along those lines (Installer/user error) It would be correct (IMO) for PPE to Replace the defective part.. I have been there before and it sucks to spend the $$ on quality parts and have sh!t like this happen but its life and well "Sh!t Happens" :( If you paid for the new up pipe and PPE offered a refund upon return of there defective up pipe it seems like it would be a win win for both parties involved without much down time on your end. None of my business really and if it happened to me I would just weld it myself and throw it back together bitching all the while :D Good luck whatever route you go :thumb:

^x2 Tig will provided a much nicer end result with a better weld in this situation. IMO should not be a problem at all for an expierence welder.

I don't think you would have thus problem if you had used Ricks manifolds and uppipes. They should exchange it so your down any time. Only reason not to would be if you had modified or intentionally damaged them.
