I have a friend with a LBZ that wants the LB7 rumble with his truck. He's using a PPE tuner right now though. I was curious if I was to modify the stock tune with just the vane position and then let him use his PPE after that would it just overwrite it my changes? I know I could just have him flash the tune into his truck and then alter the vane table, but that would be worth it if he wants to change the tunes with the tuner.

pretty sure it wont work like that jason. the ppe just saves your stock tune to its memory like we do with efi live, and loads a new tune in. It doesnt modify the stock that it pulls....

Ok, I thought maybe it just works kind of like a script, where it only changes certain tables.

I could be wrong, but I have had my race tune in before and I put a PPE tune in once as I had to tow something and only had my hot +2 and no laptop, and it ran as a level 2 tune...

I'm not sure but I think it will work. I had the "rumble idle" on my truck with the Bully Dog triple dog and it still worked. But it would only change when I put it on Crazy Larry. i could be wrong though, I took the rumble idle off a few months back.

I'm wondering now if it goes in steps...

Since the tuners have to be compatible with many different operating systems it SEEMS as though they get your stock tune in the hand held save it, and the only modify the tables it needs, piggybacks the rest of the stock tune untouched and re-flashes it to the ECM.

The only reason I don't see it working like efilive where it overwrites everything is I don't think it would be feasible to operate that way with all the different OS's and motor combos some can use.

Heck if it was me, I'd try it... I know 100 bucks for a license but, just tell him it's not guaranteed but you're willing to try and then let us know!

A typical tune file is less than 2mb, There is plenty of room in a canned tuner to hold 100s of tune files. It would only need the vin number or stock os to associate the correct file to flash in....

That is what I was wondering, but I have no idea if ppe changes the vain tables, never looked at a tune. If they change the vane tables then it's probably a no go for sure.

I got an idea... (This can't be good :baby:)

First is have him flash the stocker back in, save it in EFILIVE, then have him flash the power level of his choice from the PPE.
Then save the PPE tune into efilive.
Then compare the two - if the vane tables aren't changed, then you can try to overwrite that tune.

Even IF the vane tables were changed, just change the areas for the off idle stuff (his rumble idle) and leave the rest alone... flash it back into his ECM.

Then he has a PPE power level of his choice + a rumble idle like he asked.

I think that is fine as long as the PPE tune is not distributed. I was gonna say the same but I didnt want to get flamed.

You know - I didn't even think about that... Although with the poster being LBZ I don't think it'd go anywhere, he seems like a stand up guy.

Although, if you're going to whore out a hot+2 tune, lemme know  (J/K!!)

i accidentally did this with my lbz. i had one of robs tunes in that i had modified the vains for a rumble at idle. then i just wanted to try out my bosses triple dog. ijust figured it would overwrite robs tune, but when i started the truck it had the lb7 rumble. wtf i thought. i pulled the tune off then with efi and noticed that i sort of "melted" the two tunes together. the tribledog only changed like four parameters of robs tune. everything else was how he had tuned it. might work the same with the ppe?
