The truck has 210k miles and runs like a screaming ape with 14-15 mpg on avg, bone stock. I've owned the truck since new and have always changed the oil every 7 to 10k miles. I noticed considerable oil under the truck and took it to a local chevy dealer who is saying the motor needs head gaskets and the job calls for over 30 hours labor with a cost of around $3300. I'm assuming this price doesn't include any work to the heads if needed.

1) Does this sound right for head gaskets??
2) Should I have the heads checked and reworked while off?
3) Or at 210k should I look at a new motor for a few thousand more?

Any input is welcome.

when does a blown head gasket spew oil? Was there also coolant everywhere? Hard to imagine there wouldn't be coolant spewing or consumed inside the engine (which would be indicated by noticable whitish smoke out exhaust) as well if it is really a head gasket. Perhaps it's just a valve cover sealing issue which would be understandable with those miles?

Are you absolutely positive the dealership is being honest with you?

I'm thinking about getting another opinion. I've never heard about or seen a head gasket loose this much oil, and no there isn't any coolant issues which makes me question it more. It's taken a couple of days to get over the sticker shock for the head gasket job for me to think about this. I'm going to get my truck!

Id get a new motor at those miles. I have had a motor push water into the oil which then pushes oil out the overflow but thats with a cracked block. Initial diagnosis however was headgaskets fwiw.
