Possibly trading an LB7 for an 01 Cummins. Hear me out.

So basically, I've got my other LB7 sitting listed for sale for a while now, and recently a guy came forward asking me if I would consider a trade. I wasn't too hot about it at first and didn't write him back, but then I figured oh what the hell, and asked what he had in mind for a trade. 01 Cummins with 169k. 4wd. 7" lift. Edge comp box
150hp 7x10 injectors. 150 airdog with 1/2 lines to injection pump. Bottom tank sump. Transmission rebuilt (according to him). Triple pillar gauges. Tq converter lockup switch on dash.

Now to the problems, I guess. Rust. Typical rockers and cab corners. Also said it's got the typical dodge steering issues, maybe steering pump, maybe the fact it's lifted 7 without a sway bar.

Background on my lb7. CcSB, LT fully loaded, leather int. It's an 03 with 239k on the clock. Billet triple disc torque converter. Egr delete. EFI Live by Idaho rob, 5 position dsp switch. Straight piped. Aftermarket intake. It's also 4wd. Everything in the truck works.

Now the bad with my lb7. Will need hydroboost, and batteries. Has a slight lope because of a fuel line leak somewhere by the tank. Runs strong. No transmission or engine issues. No haze. RUST, it had rockers and cab corners replaced by a 4 year old I think.

Given the ups and downs on both. I'm actually considering trading this guy for his cummins. I'm looking for opinions here. I've got my lb7 listed for 9k OBO, and have been getting nothing but tire kickers. In my mind I feel like with this trade I could potentially pick up a work truck to beat on, so that I don't beat on my 04 LB7, or potentially have a project Truck? Even maybe trade and sell the cummins for what I wanted to sell the lb7 for? Maybe have more luck that way?

Thoughts?

You lost me when you said it has a 7" lift. That has zero appeal to me and you mention work truck so I imagine you'd have to remove it in order to effectively work out of it? I'd like to think your truck is worth more than that truck but who knows.

Most likely would remove it if I was keeping it. But it isn't said I would keep it. Just considering even selling it after the trade. May be easier to sell a cummins in our area than a duramax. Every 18 year old wants a cummins here.

I've got a 97 cummins that I bought off of a 80 year old man. Minimal rust for a Ohio truck and only towed some horses to texas a few times. The interior looked like brand new and even had the original window sticker. With 180k miles I paid $5k. Even bone stock the front end needed rebuilt which was a pain then a week after I got done, the power steering pump went out and it was down for another 2 months. I ended up replacing the power steering pump, steering box, and had the hydroboost rebuilt because I couldn't pin point the problem. Dodge wanted $535 for a power steering pump and cummins wanted $505. A dodge with a 7 inch lift I wouldn't even consider after this lol. Being a 01 does it have the 052 block or whatever it is that's known for cracking? Also I heard the life of the $2000 vp44 pumps on those trucks aren't very long. Just some things to consider. I bought mine because I thought it was a decent deal and I wanted a back up when my lb7 injectors went bad. This thing has already cost me way more than the duramax has and the duramax has twice as many miles on it. Just some food for thought.

Just my .02. Having driven my dads 08 Cummins that's deleted and tuned with a built trans. And owning an lb7. I will NEVER trade my truck for a dodge. They ride horrible. The dashes crack. The front ends are terrible to have issues. Maybe a 12 valve I would consider if it was fully fully built but never a 24v. Vp44 needs a lift pump to not go out as much. Is the trans rebuilt or built? Because if it's just rebuilt start saving as soon as you get it for another. Plus most likely the Chevy will ride better and be way more comfy. And being a crew cab lots more room. You've got a nice start on your Chevy. If I was you I'd say no go. You'd be trading down not up.

Well the lb7 I'm talking about here is one of 2 that I own. And this one is for sale, that is the only reason I even gave this any thought. I have my 04 gmc lb7 that I daily and spend all my money on. This 03 chevy lb7 is a yard ornament.

I've got a buyer for it coming to look at it this weekend, so I will turn the trade down at least for now and see what this guy brings with him on the weekend. Would really rather just sell the lb7. Sigh.

Thanks for the input guys.

I had a 2006 dodge before I bought my gmc. Got a screaming deal on it and owned it for 3 years. I'll never own another. They wrapped an awesome motor in a piece of shit. I never had motor issues but I went through a transmission and in three years I was about to put the third front end in it. Each front end was over a thousand bucks at the least. Mine was leveled with 35s. Not a lot of mods either. It was a pos. But I will say they are a lot easier and more open to work on.

I wouldn't do it, especially with out knowing transmission history and that big of a lift. Buddy of mine had 12ish year model. Tuned, deleted on like 37s. He babied it. He sold it to a kid he worked with about 6 months ago with about 50k old the clock. Said the kid romps on it constantly, and he's already had to rebuild the trans and front end. Pretty sure he said the kid made the trans shit the bed before he ever even made a payment on it.
