Hey guys,

First post here and I'm hoping you can help. I have an 06' LBZ with about 115,000 on the clock. A few months back my check engine light came on and the dealer told me it was the PO540 air intake heater circuit code. They wanted about $600 to replace the control module as they tell you it is unserviceable. I've searched here and other forums in regards to this and apparently you can just replace the relay inside of the control module. Note: I want to fix the problem so please no replies telling me to just delete the heater.

A few questions:
1. Where exactly is the control module on an LBZ located(pics would be great)
2. Is it a specific relay inside of the module
3. Part number for replacement relay
4. If this doesn't work, best place to get a replacement module as well as part number

Anything you guys could tell me is appreciated, thanks in advance

So i tried to do as much research as i could on this but i ended up deciding to take it to the dealer for repair, but for Some reason the price had jumped from $600 or so to almost $900. Not sure if I misunderstood the service writer originally but after hearing that i resorted to just going to napa for the part and am going to swap it out when it arrives. Napa took me for $150 and the dealer wanted about $250 for the part so for $650 in labor or so to just plug it in is crazy.

So do you guys think i should just be able to swap it out and it will clear the CEL on its own or will i still need a scan tool to clear it? also are there any special things i need to do prior to the swap or is it just plug and play?

So I installed the part the other day and driven the truck as much as possible but the CEL has yet to go out. I'm gonna clear the code with my buddy's scan tool and see if it stays off. My smog is due by Friday and think I'm going to go get an extension rather than rush it to the dealer and get raped in case it comes back on. If it does, I can't imagine what else it would be could be.

Soooooo. Had my buddy clear the code and the PO540 code is now gone so I'm assuming the new glow plug controller corrected the problem but now it's pulling the P160C code which is something along the lines of the GPCM needing to be programmed with the engine calibration information. Is this something that is easy to do with an advance scan tool or a dealer item? If I go the dealer route what do you think they'll charge for something like this?

Sooooo. This is starting to be a can of worms. Took my truck to the dealer this morning, explained everything to the advisor. Ok, so $145 for the diagnosis fee. He calls me a couple hours later. Telling me exactly what I told him, injector flow rates needed to be programmed into the new gpcm in order to clear the P160C code (thanks captain obvious) but the PO540 code was still coming up. What!? They told me before the replacement gpcm would fix this and now they told me it was the actual air intake heater. So now after $150 for the new gpcm and $220 to the dealer to diagnose and program the gpcm, I'm back at square one. Going to order a new heater at napa for $200, the dealer wanted $7-800 to replace so I'll install myself and pray this is the fix.

Replaced the air intake heater over the weekend and picked up a scan tool to clear the CEL. Now I just need to drive it so all the ecm self checks can run their cycles and pray the CEL doesn't come back on, wish me luck.......
