What is the purpose for having what looks like a thermostat device in the factory water feed fitting on the DMax? Is it necessary to have it or could you just have a normal barbed fitting to flow coolant that is flowing through the factory hardline? Working on relocating this to make more room and if that fitting was not necessary to would make for a lot of extra space.

It opens and closes as the temp changes with the coolant then lets it flow to the turbo I think as I last read I would have to look again also think it works as a check valve.

I think it's also set to open at a lower temp. Seems like I read 140* or something like that can't remember for sure. I've seen them tapped into the heater hoses to do away with the thermostat and it didn't seem to make a noticeable difference. I cut out the bung that it screws into and welded it to the drivers side laying flat so that it runs along the head and it's out of the way of everything. Piece of rubber hose comes out of it, makes a 90* and goes right into the barb on A GT42. It made plenty of room for the intake of a larger turbo. I don't know that it's necessary to have, but I figured the cooler the better and if that's what it's for I'd try to keep it.
