Piston protrusion?

I just checked my piston protrusion with my dial indicator. My readings were quite a bit different for each piston. Does the location of the dial indicator on the piston (in relation to the wrist pin) matter? I had anywhere from .012 to .007. I'm curious if it's normal to have some variance like that, or maybe I did something wrong?

Here are the numbers I measured...

2 .007 -- 1 .010
4 .009 -- 3 .012
6 .008 -- 5 .007
8 .011 -- 7 .010
