Fingers had a thread a little while back that showed an engine stand he made. Have to admit that it is a nice stand. I am not trying at all to one up Fingers, but I thought I would post a few pictures of a stand that is home built by my cousin who works for the man in the picture. This stand is made of scrap iron and a one off part off of a center pivot irrigation sprinkler. The only part that is bought are the casters.
The photo shows a Cummins 855 irrigation motor short block. This stand spins it with ease using one hand on the crank of the stand rotator (he spun this short block 90 degrees with four cranks). With the same engine fully built (2,000lbs.) it's a little tougher, but will spin it 360 infinitely with two hands on the crank. So, if a guy had a Duramax on it ... LOL ... it would make is job way easy.
Another thing to mention: the guy with the overalls on in the photo is a wiz. He has no professional degree, and only has an 8th grade education (for that is when Mennonites take all their kids out of school). He is a very successful farmer in southwest Kansas, owns a new Vette, an airplane, etc. He overhauled a Cummins in a Ford semi-tractor in 28 hours ... by himself. In the shop, pulled, rebuilt and reinstalled ... 28 hours straight. To boot, he is a great guy to be around because he is fun!
This is his stand, thought of by him and built by my cousin.
