I posted this as a reply to an existing thread, but like most discussion boards, a reply to an old thread may get buried fast. I'm reposting here for quicker feedback. Thanks!

Hi, I read all the posts and wondered if you know of other issues that could cause the smoking out of the lower pcv hose? What I can tell you is this;
1. I am on my 20th injector (all 8 changed 2.5 years ago with 150K/Driver's 4 changed 2 months ago when two of four failed)
2. Head gaskets replaced 9 months ago (both sides)
3. Cylinder balance rates are all normal in idle/neutral (+/- 1 from zero)
4. #6 cylinder reads 7-8 in idle/drive, while other cyls read 3-4
5. Smoke puffing out of oil fill when cap is removed
6. losing about a cup of coolant every week
7. Oil is not milky
8. No smoke is coming out of tailpipe
9. Slight knocking (ticking) coming from the driver's bank (not a fuel knock)
10. Using about 2 quarts of oil per 5k miles
11. Engine is not running really rough, but has slight vibration not noticed before.

I'm hoping it is the #6 injector hold down bolt. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Chris

you need to do a comp test and a leak down test. do you have a way to shut cylinders off? like with a scan tool or efi live. if so shut them off one by one and see if the puffing blowby changes when you shut them off. might give you and idea which cylinder has an issue.

Based on balance rates and that #6 is the only cylinder with abnormal readings (other 7 are within acceptable norms), I am very certain that #6 is the faulty one.

Have not done comp or leak down.

Shutting off cylinders does not yield a difference in smoking within the 30 seconds that the cylinder is down. Could that point to blow by into the crankcase versus past the injector?

Will a comp test tell if it is rings versus injector blow by?

What will the leak down do? What does it mean? I am not a mechanic.

Thanks,
Chris
