That is a very good question Mack. I really don't know. I'm stuck between going urethane or basecoat/clearcoat. I won't be doing the work. I have a professional painter doing it at his shop. All he can get is water based paint and it would cost $1200 just for the paint:eek:

I would go with Base coat, clear coat Urethane. I use PPGs Omni line. The reds will take a few extra coats to cover. Are you changing the color if so are you doing the door jams? I would say you will use 1 1/2 gal. each of paint and clear no problem. The cost for omni overall clear is about $170 that is one gal of clear and 2 qts of harder. Paint would be right around $250 per gal. You will be much happier with a clear coat system.

I'm going to have to agree with going with the 2 stage base, clear. Don't skimp on the clear. I used the Omni brand pant when I painted my Jeep.

Ex. Cab SB. I also have my mirrors and cut-out fender flares to paint. Here is a link of what paint I'm thinking of buying. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I believe what you're getting there is a "pre-reduced" gallon...3 parts paint, one part hardener...Or, in other words...dump the hardener into the can...mix well..Pour into the gun and spray...

Very similar to the old Dupont Imron industrial coatings of yesteryear...

Are you stripping the factory finish down to bare metal or what's the plan here?

Not for nuttin it says that a 'activator' is required. You can buy a 'kit' which comes with the activator required.
