Well after I spent an hour trying to pefectly mask off my brand new GMC emblem, it still came out like crap paint still got where I didnt want it and the dog must of knocked it over when it was in the garage, anyways it came out looking like crap, so I thought there must be a better way, I thought about throwing it in the oven and peeling it off, using a heat gun and a screw driver to pry it off. I didnt put it in the oven but I did screw the chrome base the letters sit in all up from trying to pry it out. But after all that screwing around I finally got it.
You'll need a
medium sized phillips head screw driver
flat head screw driver with a 3/16" or so tip
drill with a 1/4" bit
You'll need to drill holes on the back side of the emblem to push out the G and the C. The M comes with holes already in it. The place to drill is about a 1/4" away from the end of the letters. Go slow just enough to drill through the chrome base and just to expose a little bit of the red letter. I then used a screw driver on the backside to push the letter outwards, while it was pushed outwards I then took the flat head screwdriver and pryed it underneath the letter, I then followed the direction of the letter gently prying and pushing forward seperating the letter from the chrome base.
Then all you'll have to do is just throw them on a piece of cardboard and hit them with paint, and use your choice of automotive adhesive to glue the letters back into place.
The first picture shows the original holes in the letter M and where I drilled the hole in the letter G and how deep I went.
The second picture shows the phillips head in the backside pushing up on the letter, and the gap that I slip the flathead into.
The eblem is all dirty after my butchered original paint job.
