Hello all;

New to this forum and new to diesels. Got a check engine light two weeks ago and went to the shop. Diagnostics indicated the turbo boost solenoid. Solenoid was replaced and one week later another check engine. Purchased an OBDII scanner. That indicated a P2563 code. Is one related to the other or perhaps something the mechanic overlooked or didn't do? Any suggestions?
Many thanks.

You're going to find, when you look up the codes in the search area of the forum, the P2563 is a result of either the turbo vane control sensor going bad, the vvt solenoid going bad, of the turbo vanes sticking from carbon build up.

When you read the information, you will see that there's a set parameter for ECM for the turbo's vane position for a given condition. For instance, when you start your truck, the ECM does a turbo sweep to check the vane positions to see if they're within spec. If the turbo sensor is different from what the ECM says the position it should be, withing 15%, you will see the code turn on when the condition is replicated more than once, setting off the check engine light.

Garrett has gone to update the Vane Position sensor along with GM issuing a bulletin recommending that if you replace the Sensor and Solenoid, the the condition still exist, to replace the turbo with a updated version.

Your mechanic should be able to reset the turbo, from a Tech II, and test the turbo vanes position-desired-vs-actual.

So if you replace both the VPS and Vane solenoid and do the re learn and still get a p2563 is it safe to assume I should rebuild and clean my turbo....?
